intervista di un giornale francese a matt e nick:
The writing Grenews.com has slipped behind the scenes of Summum for a meeting, while unlikely, with the Arctic Monkeys. A veritable obstacle course to approach these geniuses of rock, barely out of adolescence. In full European tour, the "four boys in the wind" test the public's enthusiasm for their latest album "Humbug." It's Marie-Lilas Vidal says.
8:00: Will I meet the Arctic Monkeys tonight? All signs seem to tell me that there is little hope. For five days I eat, sleep, wake up with these post-teens. On the ground, in bulk: two discs, three posters, a phrase written "Fake Tales of San Francisco ... Damned, I am become groupie.
14.45: Our cases suggest little. After a call to my boss, I am "disappointed": still no news of the interview, show-biz made his whims and I cringe. Five days of intensive English irregular verbs and recited ... Too bad.
15.00: Coup theater. In 40 minutes I must be in Summum to interview Arctic Monkeys. Some "Laura" tell me what to do. I feel ... how to say in English?
15:30: I walk along the entrance gate of Summum, almost running. Near the main entrance, a dozen young people have been waiting 13 hours in the cold, with the unlikely prospect of seeing the band's singer, Alex Turner. Ridiculous! I'm nervous I'm going to see Alex Turner!! Ridiculous.
15h31: Here I am facing the vigil. The problems start.
15h32: The manager says he never heard of this interview. He refuses to let me enter. The negotiation will be a tough ... I call Laura.
16:10: After a dozen coup son, the manager, producer, Eduard, Laura and others unknown, the game is finally won. I enter the parking lot of creeps me Summum and backstage ... With forty minutes late.
16.15: The guitars squeal, the technicians are agitated, the hour approaches. A silhouette slips around me shambling gait, austere, starving. The face, falsely juvenile is familiar: it is Alex Turner. The vision is the result of a scratch.
16:17: First contact established. Hopes. It says a tall blond with the accent "sussex", a "Tim". I understand that with just told me to come back in an hour. Damned.
16h20: Leaning against the wall of the shed, outside, I listen to Arctic Monkeys in full rehearsal. I understand the rough riffs Brainstorm encountering the pen of Alex Turner upset. The walls vibrate. Me too.
17h20: It's time. Bassist Nick O'Malley and drummer Matt Helders greet me, without enthusiasm, for twelve minutes of interview.
Watch in hand.
In less than two hours, you go on stage. How you feel?
Nick: Excited
Matt: We are beginning to be used now to do a lot together. Yes, we are excited but this is more like the beginning. Except when doing big concerts and festivals. Here, we are really nervous.
You seem quiet, but your stage performance is often criticized ...
Matt: If criticism is not because we are not working too hard ... But we can not do that every night the feeling really is a game of players, put a mask. While doing the best we can, and by all possible energy.
Nick: Sure it is not the type to be kicked into the air and jump around.
After the fervor generated by your first two albums, how the audience receives your last album, "Humbug"? They say musically different ...
Nick O'Malley: The first weeks we spent in Europe went well, the public came to see us en masse. And it still plays in big rooms, which is a good sign!
Matt Helder: Much time has passed since the first album, so it is really different. It is a change of music that seemed natural. We recorded 25 tracks are all different from each other and we chose ten. If we had chosen other ten, this would have been different.
Josh Home, Queens of the Stone Age, had a real impact on your "mind" ...
Matt: Home Josh told us to come to the desert to save us. We went there just to try. And he immediately liked what we did. And so we worked with him enthusiastically. James Ford (Editor's note: who produced the band The Last Shadow Puppets, another group of Alex Turner) has also left its mark on the album. But the tone of the album was already given.
Nick: This album is quite new for us. It has influences of any kind. When we were in the desert, listening to music together. Tunes by Nick Cave, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix ....
A third album that you earned a nomination in January at the NME Awards. After twenty appointments, it still makes sense to you?
Matt: It's a popularity contest, it really connected with our music. It's always nice to be recognized for our work, especially this year when we have not done many gigs in England.
Josh Home, James Ford, three albums, the rewards! You are very young: what's your secret?
Nick: I think we have much chance to become famous so young. At 19, we decided to get very serious about music instead of going to college. It seemed the most sensible decision. Education can wait ...

Nick: Yes, yes, the sex tape of Matt who made us famous (laughs)
Matt: It was not our idea to put our music on the internet. We just distributed to fans of our albums, and one of them has placed on the internet ... It passed from blog to blog, it has a buzz.
A success, so sudden ... You're afraid sometimes that enthusiasm runs out of steam?
Nick: I do not know, I guess it will never be like it was at the very beginning. Because it was really madness. But if we continue to do what you love, work and maintain our standard of music, people should keep their fervor for the moment during the concerts ...
A fourth album is in progress?
Matt: We have thought a few ideas. But there is nothing recorded yet.
Nick: We will start work later this year. We'll try to record in 2010, but it come out this year. It will, again, a different album ...
