Alex Turner's New Album
Arctic Monkeys frontman speaks at the premiere of new film Submarine
Alex Turner has said he'd like to 'write a song' for the next James Bond film soundtrack.
He was speaking to 6 Music News at the premiere of the new film, Submarine, which was directed by Richard Ayoade and which features six new songs written by Alex Turner especially for the soundtrack.
When asked if he would like to continue writing music for films Turner said: "Not necessarily. I don't think of this as a soundtrack. I just wrote a few tunes and they happened to fit. I don't think I'd be very good at doing the soundtrack for Transformers or anything like that."
But when asked if he was interested in writing for a Bond film he said: "Well that's a different story. I'd love to do a tune for Bond. Definitely."
It was actually Alex Turner who revealed to 6 Music News at Glastonbury 2008 that Jack White would be writing the soundtrack for the last Bond film. This makes the chances of Turner writing the next Bond theme seem even more likely.
Submarine
When looking for inspiration for the music for Submarine, Turner said he'd listened to the songs used in films such as The Graduate and Harold And Maude because of the way music in those films creates: "one voice throughout the whole film."
However, he also told 6 Music News that the soundtrack for Submarine does not bear much similarity to the new Arctic Monkeys album, 'Suck It And See', which is due for release in June this year: "It's not really like that, he said.
"You'll have to wait and see."
New Arctic Monkeys Album
When speaking about the making of the new Monkeys album Turner explained that the band had enjoyed recording and mixing the record in Los Angeles, a place where he said they: "have fun and get on well."
He also revealed that the music and lyrics for the album were written in London and New York: "That definitely has an effect on what you get, I'm realising."
Last Shadow Puppets
And as for whether he plans to team up with the Last Shadow Puppets again: "Miles [Kane] and I would love to ride again, said Turner.
"But he's doing his solo album and I've got the new Arctic Monkeys album coming out so that will keep us busy for a while. But we will do something again."
Turner also said that he'd enjoyed contributing to Miles' solo album: "We wrote a little bit together. There's just a spark when we're writing together."
Submarine is set to be released in cinemas on Friday.
