Arctic Monkeys swig £38k bottle MATT HELDERS missed out on a nice little earner after his boozer bungled and poured away £40,000 by cracking open a rare bottle of rum. We've all spilt a few mixers in our time but that's a sickener. Workers at The Bowery bar in Sheffield picked up the sought-after Henry Jefferson of Whitehaven bottle for just £70 last week. Understandably they were keen to crack it open and try the spirit - but they had no idea how much it was worth. They even filmed the moment when they pulled off the wax seal from the dusty stoneware bottle, spilling the dark liquid all over the bar. After the rum was unsealed someone at Matt's bar decided to contact the Rum Story museum in Cumbria where the spirit was originally made and found out that a similar unopened bottle fetched £38,000 when it was sold. Bar owner Matt found out about it on Saturday when he arrived with ARCTIC MONKEYS bandmate ALEX TURNER and they sampled a few shots. A source says: "The bar staff were mortified when they found out what they had done. "Later on that night everyone was talking about it including Matt, Alex and former Arctics member ANDY NICHOLSON. "Everyone was shocked but found it pretty funny - except the manager who runs the pub for Matt." A message on the pub's Facebook page read: "The industry experts seem to agree that we've opened a bottle of booze potentially worth about 40 grand. F***. It was a stupid mistake but it made a lovely dark 'n' stormy cocktail. Now we've got some of the country's leading rum experts investigating and coming to see us." If all else fails they could try charging around £1,000 a time for a super-rare rum and coke to make the cash back. It'd be cheaper than some West End bars.
