THIS year’s NME Awards will be a trans-Atlantic clash.
On the British side are ARCTIC MONKEYS, MUSE and KASABIAN with four nominations between them – the same as THE KILLERS and MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE from America.
Sheffield’s Monkeys and Leicester’s Kasabian also go head to head in Best Band, Best Album and Best Live.
The Monkeys’ ALEX TURNER said: “It’s weird for us to be alongside them. We still feel like a little band. When it’s your own thing you don’t really see yourself alongside The Killers and Kasabian.”
This year’s bash at London’s Hammersmith Palais has been moved back from the usual mid-February date to March 1.

THE lyrics “Up rolls the riot van” came true for ALEX TURNER when police were called to a secret gig the night after the Brit Awards.
The ARCTIC MONKEYS frontman and a load of cool young Camden Caners including KELLY OSBOURNE, NOEL FIELDING and MEG WHITE were watching the COLD WAR KIDS on Thursday.
The North London venue — Another Music=Another Kitchen at Proud Galleries — has a live licence which cuts off at midnight.
Unfortunately, that was about the time the Canadian cult indie band actually went on stage.
Management tried to turn off the music but only succeeded in stopping their microphones.
A source added: “The band couldn’t sing but the instruments were still on so they refused to stop playing.
“Security got annoyed and started physically trying to stop them.
“Then one of the band really stirred things up by playing his trumpet right into this bouncer’s ear.
“He went ballistic and a proper fight broke out. People were running for cover. Alex and Kelly had to leg it to get away. The police turned up in a meat wagon and Cold War Kids had to stop. Eventually things calmed down and everyone stayed on drinking until two.”

Arctic Monkeys, Reverend And The Makers and Milburn!
All three bands together? They were playing for the one and only Chris McClure! (album cover star)
The venue? The Old Harrow in Main Street, Grenoside, on Friday night - two days after missing the Brits award ceremony on Wednesday due to their hectic diary.
Chris spoke in the daily star;
He said: "It was a night I will never forget. I've known the lads for years but nobody let on what they were planning to do. It was a complete surprise.
"My mum Cheryl organised it with them and I can't thank everyone enough who turned up for making it a top, top night.
"Everybody had such a great time - even I had a go at singing.
"I got up and gave it my best Dusty Springfield - I guess I had a few too many."
Landlord Matt Platts said: "It was a fantastic night. The Monkeys, Milburn and The Reverend were brilliant.
"And it wasn't just thrown together on the night they had been practicing together for weeks. The bands performed a set of songs together
including covers of Oasis, Bob Marley and the Libertines mixed with a sprinkling of their own stuff.
"It was a fantastic night and one I don't think anyone who was there will ever forget."
Matt said he had to restrict the numbers of partygoers to around 120.
"We kept the party very hush hush for safety reasons as we didn't want thousands of fans descending on the pub."
